MCC to host 'Breaker, Breaker' student exhibit

McHenry County College will host a student painting exhibition titled "Breaker, Breaker" at the Woodstock Courthouse Satellite Gallery, 101 N. Johnson St., in Woodstock from March 16 through April 20.

An opening reception takes place from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 16.

"Breaker, Breaker" is the CB radio slang that announces one's intention to "break" into a conversation or "break" the silence.

McHenry County College students Haley Creager, Kendall Johnson, Dominique Sanders, and Gloria Stewart, all of Crystal Lake, as well as Mary Swenson of Huntley are all, in their own way, attempting to break into the conversation of contemporary painting.

"Breaker, Breaker" represents a small survey of these artist's recent efforts.

Matt Irie, instructor of Art at McHenry County College, is the curator of the exhibition.

This is the fifth show at Satellite Gallery, which opened last fall in the Old Woodstock Courthouse in partnership with the Northwest Area Arts Council.

The reception is free and open to the public. Satellite Gallery is located inside the Old Courthouse Arts Center, 101 N. Johnson St., Woodstock.

Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday; closed Monday through Wednesday.

For more information, call Matt Irie at (815) 455-8552 or send him an email at mirie@mchenry.edu.
