Glenbard Parent Series Feb. 2 event: Skills for a Safe School Climate

The Glenbard Parent Series: (GPS) Navigating Healthy Families will present Social Emotional Learning and Restorative Justice: Peer Relationships Skills for a Safe School Climate on Thursday, Feb. 2.

Educators recognize the importance of fostering a positive school climate and helping students learn from their mistakes. Increasingly, they are partnering with parents, students, school district officials, community organizations and policymakers to move away from counter-productive zero-tolerance discipline policies and toward proven restorative approaches to address conflict in schools.

On Feb. 2, Pamela Randall-Garner will provide an overview of restorative practices. Participants will learn strategies to build strong relationships and community in classrooms and schoolwide. Here is a review of the supportive framework for restorative practices, including the basic principles for restorative circles. Lean the steps to make restorative methods part of the fabric of daily life in our schools and how we can help transform schools to support all students' growth and health.

This free event will begin at noon Feb. 2 at the Community Consolidated School District 93 Administration Center at 230 Covington Drive in Bloomingdale. CPDUs are available.
