Celebrate Highwood Obtains 501(C)(3) Status
HIGHWOOD, IL (DECEMBER 2016) - Celebrate Highwood is proud to announce its has recently obtained 501(c)(3) status with the mission of raising funds for worthy non-profit organizations through its festivals and events. Formed in 2010 as a collaboration between the City of Highwood and the Highwood Chamber of Commerce, Celebrate Highwood's goal is to build strong community spirit and establish Highwood as the prime entertainment destination for dining, festivals and events on the North Shore.
The now independent entity, Celebrate Highwood kicked off its first fundraising campaign with the inaugural North Shore Taco Fest in July 2016 which provided the seed money necessary to establish working capital for the newly formed 501(c)(3). The Great Highwood Pumpkin Festival, which has always given back to the community and evolved into an internationally recognized event raising thousands of dollars for charities to date, successfully raised $60K for Make-A-Wish Illinois at its seventh annual event in October 2016.
"These events and festivals help create a cohesive community by allowing neighbors to come together to work toward specific goals with our charity partnerships, as well as help promote the area as a wonderful place to live, eat and play," says Eric Falberg, City of Highwood Alderman. "All monies raised through our activities are donated to local and national charitable organizations."
"This is a triple win for everyone," continued Falberg. "Festival attendees have fun socializing with friends and neighbors, the City benefits from being recognized as a social destination, all with the higher purpose of giving back to a worthy non-profit organization."
In its ongoing effort to support arts, music and culture, Celebrate Highwood is looking forward to hosting its next philanthropic fundraiser, Jazzed Up Dining & Classic Cocktails on Saturday, February 18th at 6:30 p.m. to benefit Midwest Young Artists Conservatory (MYAC), the Midwest's most comprehensive youth music school and ensemble program.
In addition to several live musical performances by MYAC students throughout the evening, guests will enjoy appetizers, dinner, dessert, cocktails, a silent auction and have the unique opportunity to tour MYAC's rehearsal facility at 878 Lyster Road in Highwood, a beautifully transformed army stockade building at Fort Sheridan, and learn about history of the building and explore the old prison cells of 1890.
