Lieutenant Governor Evelyn Sanguinetti Visits Bensenville For New Waste Water Treatment Plant Ribbon Cutting

Last month, Lieutenant Governor Evelyn Sanguinetti visited the Village of Bensenville's Public Works facility to commemorate a new Wastewater Treatment Plant Upgrade Project.

"Congratulations to Village President Soto and the Village of Bensenville on the completion of this Wastewater Treatment Plant Upgrade Project," said Lieutenant Governor Evelyn Sanguinetti. "As a result of this project, the Village of Bensenville expects to see its annual operating expenses to decrease 20%, saving taxpayer dollars while improving environmental efficiency."

Over the last two years, the nearly 70-year-old plant was converted to a state-of-the-art-facility. The approximately $30 million project was financed through the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA) Water Quality Revolving Loan Program. The IEPA has also extended a grant of nearly $765,000 as principal forgiveness on the loan. The design of the new plant focused on simplifying operations and providing processes intended to improve water quality on the receiving streams and creeks.

"On behalf of the residents of Bensenville, I would like to thank the State of Illinois for their support of this vital infrastructure project," stated Village President Frank Soto. "The $1.3 million in grant funding allowed the Village to complete this project without placing any additional financial burden on our residents. The new facility will help promote energy efficiency and sustainability in the Village."

In addition to the IEPA grant, the Village was successful in obtaining nearly $500,000 in energy efficiency grants through the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) and Illinois Clean Energy (ICE) Program.
