Glenbard invites families to study skills program & FAFSA assistance workshop

The Glenbard Parent Series: (GPS) Navigating Healthy Families will host The Four Key Study Skills for School Academic Accomplishment, as well as a FAFSA workshop on Monday, Oct. 17, at Glenbard North High School.

Study skills enable students to study and learn efficiently. At this GPS event, Patrick Donohue will explain how teens can develop a growth mindset, perseverance, and a level of grit and gain the skills that will put them on the path to success. We will examine four key areas where parents and guardians can improve their students' learning effectiveness: organization, daily habits, vision and mindset. Parents and guardians will learn the strategies to become supportive coaches and increase their children's motivation. Donohue is a former teacher, coach and school administrator and the author of "Red Zone Fathering."

The study skills event will begin at 7 p.m. in the Little Theater at Glenbard North, 990 N. Kuhn Road in Carol Stream. Students are encouraged to attend.

Glenbard East High School Spanish teacher Janet Reece also will offer the study skills program in Spanish.

Due to the earlier deadline for filing this year's FAFSA, high school seniors and their parents are encouraged to attend this FAFSA financial aid completion workshop on Oct.17. Participants will receive one-on-one assistance filing the FAFSA from financial aid specialists from the Illinois Students Assistance Corps. Please bring the following necessary documents: 2015 Federal tax return, 2015 W2 forms, record of untaxed income and investment/asset /business value. Assistance will be available in English and Spanish.

FAFSA assistance will be available from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 17 in Glenbard North's computer lab. CPDUs are available.
