McNair Park Committee plans Free Movie Night Sept. 24 to kick off development

Kaneland United SC has formed BuildMcNair.org as a community organizing committee focusing on the private fundraising and coordination of private resources to build the proposed McNair Park in Elburn.

A public kick off event is planned on Saturday, Sept. 24, at Elburn Lions Park. Movie Night for McNair is a free family night under the stars and includes live music, a screening of "Ice Age: Collision Course," and raffles. Concessions are provided by the Elburn Lions.

The park opens at 6 p.m. with music by Unscheduled Tour starting at 6:45 p.m. The movie screening begins at 8 p.m.

The community is invited to attend and can sign up for "The Best Seats in the House" where the first 50 RSVPs at www.BuildMcNair.org will have their spot on the lawn reserved.

The Build McNair committee is recruiting members from Kaneland area youth sports programs, community members interested in making an impact and local businesses. Please email info@buildmcnair.org for information on joining the committee, volunteering time or donating.

The "Be a Builder, Buy a Brick" capital campaign will launch at the movie night with information on supporting McNair Park by purchasing an engraved brick that will be a permanent part of the park.

Kaneland United SC is supporting BuildMcNair.org by providing free access to the soccer club's website, financial support, registration and payments systems and its nonprofit status to keep Build McNair costs down and ensure more funds go to developing the park. A future goal is to incorporate Build McNair as an independent 501(c)3 nonprofit and convert it into the operating board for managing McNair Park similar to the structure at Elburn Lions Park.

McNair Park is a proposed 60-acre public open space and youth sports complex located in Blackberry Township, north and west of the intersection of Route 47 and Main Street. The land was acquired by the Kane County Forest Preserve in 2014. Coordination of developing the land is being led by Blackberry Township officials.
