Glenbard to present Calming the Nerves - How to Survive the College Application Process

The Glenbard Parent Series: (GPS) Navigating Healthy Families will present Calming the Nerves - How to Survive the College Application Process: From Application to Acceptance Step by Step with Christine Van DeVelde on Thursday, May 5. The presentation will focus on finding a college that's the right fit and much more.

Students and parents are encouraged to attend to learn: the role of extracurricular activities; what's more important - high grades or tough courses; the role testing plays; the best candidates for early admission; advice for student athletes; how wait lists work; financial aid information; and the most recent changes to the college application process.

Applying to college can be stressful, and getting into college can seem complicated and competitive. Having a family discussion about college issues so that stress doesn't get in the way of the parent-child relationship is key.

Van DeVelde co-authored "College Admission from Application to Acceptance Step by Step" with Robin Mamlet, the former dean of admission at Stanford University. The book features the wise counsel of more than 50 deans of admission.

The May 5 free GPS event will begin at 7 p.m. in the auditorium at Glenbard South High School, 23W200 Butterfield Road in Glen Ellyn.
