Glenbard Parent Series to host Raising the Selfie Generation

The Glenbard Parent Series: (GPS) Navigating Healthy Families, will present Raising the Selfie Generation: the Implications and Opportunities of Growing Up in Today's Digital World with Alec Couros on Tuesday, Oct. 13.

Critics of technology use speak of a narcissistic, disconnected and disengaged generation lacking social abilities and addicted to the latest fads and gadgets. Yet, great numbers of young people are accessing and creating powerful learning networks to become passionate, self-determined learners. For parents the main concern is how can you help shape the digital footprint your teen is leaving behind and how you can help make that experience a safe one?

Couros, professor of educational technology and media, will share strategies parents can use to protect their children and help them avoid the pitfalls as they explore the digital world. This free GPS event will begin at 7 p.m. Oct. 13 in the auditorium at Glenbard North High School, 990 N. Kuhn Road in Carol Stream. CPDUs are available for educational professionals.

GPS is generously sponsored by the Cebrin Goodman Center, Cooperative Association for Special Education (CASE), College of DuPage, DuPage Medical Group, Emmy Gaffey Foundation and Trust Company of Illinois.
