Neighbors in the news: Barrington-based attorney new fire protection board trustee

• Keith Hanson, a Barrington-based attorney with 38 years of commercial law practice experience and a strong record of community service, was sworn-in as the newest member of the Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District board of trustees. Trustee Hanson is managing partner of the Hanson Law Group, with offices in Barrington and Madison, Wisconsin. In addition, he teaches Political Science at Trinity International University, Deerfield, and is a member of several professional and service organizations, including the Barrington Area Chamber of Commerce and Rotary International. The Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District serves portions of Barrington Hills, South Barrington, Lake Barrington and Inverness; and portions of unincorporated Cook, Lake and McHenry Counties. Its primary mission is to provide "Excellence in Service" while protecting and saving the lives and property of those living and working in, and visiting, the district.

• Rupali Shete Sadalage of Schaumburg, was awarded the floral industry's Accredited in Floral Design designation and was inducted into the American Institute of Floral Designers during ceremonies on July 2 at the AIFD's 2015 Symposium held June 30-July 4, in Denver, Colorado. A nonprofit education association dedicated to the advancement of professional floral design through education and leadership, AIFD accredited membership is regarded as a high honor in the floral industry. Members are distinguished by the use of the "AIFD" mark as an addendum to their name and are further considered to be a Certified Floral Designer.

• Dr. Jeffrey R. Copeland of Hawthorn Woods received the Academy of General Dentistry's Mastership Award during its 2015 annual meeting in San Francisco, California. The Mastership Award is the AGD's highest honor and one of the most respected designations with the profession. To earn this award, Copeland completed 1,100 hours of dental continuing education. Copeland graduated from University of Illinois-Chicago College of Dentistry and currently practices dentistry at Hawthorn Woods Family Dental I, in Hawthorn Woods.

•The following World War II veterans flew with Honor Flight Chicago to Washington, D.C., on its June 30th flight: William Copeland, Hoffman Estates; Irving Greenspan, Buffalo Grove; Milton Merkilin, Elk Grove; Edward Ronne, Elmhurst; Robert Zeller, Mount Prospect; Richard Vana, Des Plaines; Richard Breeden, Arlington Heights; and James Celebron, Wheaton. Honor Flight Chicago is a nonprofit dedicated to recognizing the service and sacrifice of World War II veterans by providing all-expense-paid trips to visit the Washington, D.C., memorial built in their honor.
