Dundee Lions welcomes new associate member

Dr. Muthusamy Doraisamy from Karur, India, recently became an associate member of the Dundee Lions Club. He visits regularly with his daughter in West Dundee and while here he is an active Lion.

According to Jim McClung, president of the Dundee Lions, it has been a great experience for the club members.

Members all know they are a part of an international organization, but this is a rare opportunity to work side by side with someone who is from so far away but so close in values when it comes to helping a community.

Dr. Doraisamy tells that his club in India has focused on taking over a school in a poverty area. He said when they began the school was very small and now how has grown to 1,500. He said the school is now recognized for its outstanding academic programs as well as for its athletic programs. Other programs they involve themselves in is in improving drinking water supplies to a few schools in remote villages.

In the time Dr. Doraisamy has been here, he has enjoyed working with the Dundee Lions in their fundraisers. Although he will be returning to India soon, he promises to be back and pick up where he has left off.

McClung notes that one of the great things about being a Lion is that when you are visiting another area or move, usually there is another Lion Club nearby, you can continue your involvement. He encourages any former Lion who has moved into the Dundee area to get in touch by calling him at (847) 567-7127.

The Dundee Lions meet regularly at the Village Squire in West Dundee. Find "Dundee Township Lions Club" on Facebook
