Community shred, electronics recycling event at township building

Schaumburg Township Clerk Timothy M. Heneghan and the board of trustees are sponsoring the second annual Community Shred & Electronics Recycling event from 9 a.m.-noon on Saturday, June 7. This event will be in the parking lot of the Schaumburg Township building, at 1 Illinois Blvd., in Hoffman Estates.

This event is free and open to Schaumburg Township residents only. Business will not be allowed to participate in this event. Proof of residency will be required.

Prodige Processing, Inc. will provide electronics recycling. The following items will be accepted: Computer/IT equipment, cellphones/phones, home and office electronics, UPS backup batteries, etc. Items that will not be accepted include: Batteries (AAA, AA, C, D, etc.) and any item leaking chemical such as a cracked computer monitor and/or crushed laptop. CRT monitors and tube TVs will cost $5-$20 depending on the item.

Paper shredding is limited to two letter/legal size banker boxes no larger than one cubic feet or 15 x 12 x 10 in size. Paper clips, staples and rubber bands do not need to be removed.
