Elgin Lion club member receives Lazansky Award

First Vice District Governor Bob Fowler presented Elgin Lions Club member Ed Bates with the prestigious George Lazansky Distinguished Service Award at the meeting of the club this month.

The presentation was in response to Lion Bates' efforts in assisting the efforts of his club and Lions Clubs International in helping those less fortunate in our community and elsewhere.

The George Lazansky Distinguished Service Awards are presented to deserving Lions and Lionesses in Lions District 1-J each year.

The award honors not only the recipient but its namesake, District 1-J's first Governor who served in 1951-52. It is the highest award that can be granted by District 1-J.

Lions Clubs International is the world's largest service club organization with more than 1.3 million members in approximately 45,000 clubs in more than 200 countries and geographical areas around the world.

The Elgin Lions Club meets regularly at the American Legion Hall, 820 N. Liberty St. in Elgin. For information about the club, visit e-clubhouse.org/sites/elginil/index.php.
