Beth Kruger to speak to Elgin Lions Club April 1

Beth Kruger will speak to the Elgin Lions Club at their meeting on Tuesday, April 1, at the American Legion Hall, 820 N. Liberty St. in Elgin.

Kruger currently sits on the city of Elgin Planning and Zoning commission and is a member on the PADS of Elgin board of directors. In the spring of 2013, she was elected to the Gail Borden Public Library trustee position, and was installed in the trustee position in July.

In her presentation, Kruger will outline a quick history of the Gail Borden Public Library which is celebrating its 140th year in Elgin on March 18, 2014. She will touch on what her responsibilities to the taxpayers are as an elected trustee. She will also share the changes she has seen during her time as a trustee and present a new initiative underway to provide library services to more children and families.

The meeting is open to the public. Those wishing to attend are asked to notify the club on the Elgin Lions Club's phone answering service at (847) 289-4206 and leave a message. It is a meal meeting. The cost for the meal is $15, but attendees do not need to partake of the meal. When leaving the message, please indicate if a meal is desired. Advance notification is necessary to provide adequate seating and meals.

Members of the Elgin Lions Club are conducting their 30th annual Rose Day. They will be selling one dozen long stemmed roses for $15 between now and April 7 for delivery on April 16-18. Club members will also be selling roses at Elgin train stations during this time. This is a major fundraising event that began in 1984, and was so well received that it is now an annual affair. The roses can be ordered from any Elgin Lions Club member, or an order can be placed by calling (847) 289-4206. If you use the phone number, a Lions Club member will return your call to take the information needed for the delivery and to make arrangements for payment.

Arrangements have been made with Ziegler's Ace Hardware at 215 N Spring St. and 1158 Lillian St. in Elgin to assist the club by having order forms and a secure container to leave the order forms and the payment. Inquiries can be made at batesed@cod.edu.

The Elgin Lions Club has been serving the Elgin area for 83 years, providing thousands of eyeglasses to Elgin area students who could not otherwise afford them as well as countless other charitable works. The club is interested in gaining new members so that it can do even more for the community and it requests that anyone interested please attend this meeting.
