Lakeside Legacy Arts Park presents trumpet-piano recital May 3

On Saturday, May 3, trumpet player Mark Ponzo will perform at 3 p.m. in the Listening Room at the Lakeside Legacy Arts Park in Crystal Lake. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door. To reserve your tickets today, visit www.LakesideLegacy.org or call (815) 455-8000.

Roger Reupert, the House Manager of the Listening Room, spoke of the performance: "There are many artists, who you may be unfamiliar with, that play in the Listening Room but you have heard very similar performers at Ravinia or the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. If you ever bought tickets to the Chicago Symphony Orchestra or Ravinia, this recital and vintage instrument demonstration conducted by pianist Dr. Jeong Soo Kim and Dr. Mark Ponzo is an opportunity to experience an up close and personal concert with two symphony greats."

These two great performers will play works of the great cornet masters followed by an interactive demonstration of many vintage and rare instruments that are 150 years old or older. They will explain the different aspects of playing the music on the program followed by an insightful demonstration of his vast instrument collection.

Lakeside's Executive Director, Siobhan Cottone remarked, "This recital will be very entertaining and educational to anyone who enjoys classical music. All brass students are highly encouraged to attend and learn from these masters, but you don't need to play an instrument to enjoy this recital."

Ponzo holds a doctorate of musical arts degree in performance and literature from the Eastman School of Music with a performer's certificate. He has been a member of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra and Mexico City Philharmonic. Ponzo is a regular substitute with the Elgin Symphony and Chicago Brass Quintet while also having performed with the Chicago Symphony.

Jeong Soo Kim is an associate professor of piano at Northern Illinois University where she teaches applied piano, piano literature, and piano theory and instruction. Kim received her bachelor's degree from Seoul National University, her master's degree from the New England Conservatory, and her doctorate in piano performance and literature from the Eastman School of Music.

Tickets are $10 in advance and can be purchased at www.LakesideLegacy.org or by contacting the Box Office and asking for Roger, (815) 455-8000.
