Submitted by District 214

Elk Grove High School has been selected a Grammy Signature Schools semifinalist for 2014 by the Grammy Foundation. Created in 1998, the Grammy Signature Schools program recognizes top U.S. public high schools that are making an outstanding commitment to music education during an academic school year.

Elk Grove High School is among 123 schools in the running to secure a grant for music excellence.

“It's exciting to be named a Grammy Signature Schools semifinalist,” said Bill Baar, Elk Grove High School band director. “It would be a great honor to be named a finalist and recognized for musical excellence by the Grammy Foundation, one of the leading musical organizations in the world. I know it would mean a lot to the students and parents.”

The Grammy Foundation will announce the finalists for the Grammy Signature Schools program in mid-March 2014. If selected a finalist, Elk Grove will receive a custom award and a monetary grant ranging from $1,000 up to $15,000 to benefit its music program.
