Addison Trail senior still hospitalized after crash

More than a week after he was struck by a car, Addison Trail High School senior Dylan Domek remained hospitalized Monday in critical condition.

Domek, a linebacker on the school football team, had been scheduled to graduate when he was injured early June 9, just hours before the commencement ceremony.

Officials said the teen sustained severe head and leg injuries when he tried crossing Lake Shore Drive in Chicago on foot shortly after midnight and was hit by a BMW.

Police said they were unsure why Domek, who was with a group of friends, was crossing the thoroughfare. Authorities have closed their investigation and said no charges will be filed.

The accident has prompted an outpouring of support from classmates and staff at Addison Trail. School officials said Domek, 19, planned to join the Marines upon graduating.

Domek has been treated at Northwestern Memorial Hospital since the accident.
