Can you out sing the contestants on "American Idol," "The Voice" or "The X-Factor"?
Make Schaumburg Park District's Schaumburg Idol your first step to singing stardom. The district is now accepting applications for this year's competition.
This summer, 12 contestants will be chosen to compete for eight spots, which will then be narrowed down to four, then two and eventually one Schaumburg Idol. Contestants advance according to the highest combined judge and community votes. Prizes will be awarded to the winner.
"Schaumburg Idol gives area singers an opportunity to amaze the judges and home audience each year," said Beth Waller, cultural arts supervisor for the district. "The community will again have the chance to vote for their favorite contestant on parkfun.com this summer."
To be eligible for Schaumburg Idol, contestants must be age 13 or older and not party to a contract for performing services. Interested individuals must register, complete the audition entry form and pay the audition fee at parkfun.com. Once registered, contestants will be contacted to set up an audition time. Contestants must perform a one-minute selection from a song of their choice. Performances may be a cappella or accompanied by a cassette or CD provided by the contestant. No rap songs or inappropriate language is permitted.
The top 12 scoring audition participants will become contestants. Competition tapings will be held June to August. Audition fee is $5 for residents and $8 for nonresidents. Fee for those chosen to compete is $35 for residents and $57 for nonresidents.
