Palatine Park District Offers Lacrosse for Boys and Girls

Palatine Park District offers lacrosse league options for boys and girls beginning in April. Boys will participate in the Northwest Chicago Youth Lacrosse Federation Travel League, while girls play through the Illinois Girls Lacrosse Association.

Palatine and the communities of Arlington Heights, Buffalo Grove, and Rolling Meadows are joining forces to bring you the Palatine Penguins Boys Youth Lacrosse club (PPBYL). PPBYL teams will participate in the Northwest Chicago Youth Lacrosse Federation Travel League, and the season will take place from April 4 through June 9. This league provides a fun and exciting playing environment for everyone from the beginner to the elite lacrosse player. Teams at the U9, U11, U13, and U15 division levels will be grouped by grade and ability level. Tryouts are required for upper level teams. Program emphasis will be on skill development, teamwork, and sportsmanship. All programs are ideal for beginning and experienced players. Practices will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Falcon Park, and games will be played on Sundays. For all league information including dates, times, locations, and equipment, visit your town's web page at www.penguinslax.com. All players must rent/purchase all equipment prior to the first practice; equipment will not be available at the field. Rental/purchase information can be found on the equipment page at www.penguinslax.com. The registration deadline for this league is March 15.

Illinois Girls Lacrosse Association is a league run by women in lacrosse who want to help girls reach their potential in a fun and safe environment. The league offers girls in 1st through 8th grades the opportunity to be part of a youth lacrosse league exclusively for girls from Chicago, the north, northwest, west, and south suburbs. The emphasis of this program is to develop the girl within the sport of lacrosse. The goals of the program are to understand the rules of lacrosse, active teamwork, sportsmanship, and foster personal development in a respectful environment led by positive coaching. All players will receive equal playing time. Practices are once a week for 1.5 hours and games will be played on Sunday afternoons. Game locations rotate within your division. The league will be offered from April 14 through June 9. For complete program details, visit www.iglax.org.

In addition, volunteer coaches are needed for both leagues. Complete details on coaching opportunities can be found on the league websites.

Registration for both leagues can be done online at www.palatineparks.org or in person at Community, Birchwood, or Falcon Park. For more information on these youth lacrosse options, visit www.palatineparks.org or contact Todd Ranum, Athletic Coordinator, at 847-496-6238 or tranum@palatineparks.org.
