Spring break is right around the corner. In almost no time at all, people will be heading out to many different destinations. Whether taking a road trip across the country with family, taking a weekend get-a-way with friends, or even flying abroad, it is important to stay safe throughout your vacation.
Preparing for your trip is an essential part of being safe. Make sure to bring necessary items such as health insurance cards, a credit card for emergencies, and emergency contact information. It is better to be over prepared then not prepared at all.
Becoming aware of your surroundings when you get to your new destination is also very important. In case of emergency, know the address you are staying at and have it on you at all times. This way, if you find yourself in an unfamiliar location you should be able to ask for help and get to your appropriate destination. In times of need or panic it is extremely important to know where the closest hospital and police station is so you aren't last minute trying to figure things out in an emergency.
Your skin is one of the body's most important organs. It is common for people to want that summer glow, but it is still very necessary to protect your skin as much as you can. Also, be sure to reapply sunscreen after swimming and sweating. Protecting your skin will protect you against sun burns now and other skin problems in the future.
The consumption of alcohol is very frequent on vacations. It is important that if you are going to consume alcohol you have a plan for the evening. Make sure if you are at a location not in walking distance from where you are staying that you know how you will be getting back that evening. It can also be beneficial to have a backup plan just in case. When drinking around people you do not know, never leave your drinks unattended. Also, don't accept an open drink from a stranger to protect yourself from consuming something you do not want to.
Even if only a couple of times, it is important to stay active while vacationing. Even taking a walk along a beach, or swimming for some time will help make sure you get your heart rate up for at least a small portion of the time while away.
