'Boxes of Love' for needy senior citizens

Divine Savior Parish of Downers Grove has recently created and donated care packages to serve the needs of all 121 needy senior citizens served by the DuPage based, non-profit, The Humanitarian Service Project (HSP.)

Making these 121 “Boxes of Love” have become a tradition for the parish, crafting them for each senior annually around Valentine's Day. This project is spearheaded by Divine Savior's youth, but many other parishioners participate as well.

The boxes are filled with personal care items to allow these seniors to live more comfortably and maintain a healthy lifestyle. These items include; tissues, toilet paper, shampoo, conditioner, soap, mouth wash, lotions, toothpaste, tea, and hot chocolate! In addition to this generous, annual donation, Divine Savior is a major supporter of HSP, and its many projects designed to serve the needs of impoverished seniors and children in DuPage and Kane Counties.

The purpose of HSP's Senior Citizen Project is to provide for the basic and nutritional needs of 121 needy, local seniors. HSP does so by providing monthly deliveries of 100 lbs of groceries to each of the 121 seniors in the program which include: selections of seven fresh fruits and eight vegetables, seven frozen meats, five bags of non-perishable foods, two bags of paper products and personal care items, such as those provided by Divine Savior.

HSP is at 465 Randy Road, Carol Stream, IL 60188.
