George R. Scoville, 47, was killed after he fired his weapon numerous times at officers and deputies who were investigating a hit-and-run crash.

Scoville was taken to Glen Oaks Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Officers said police went to a home about 6:30 p.m. Monday in an unincorporated area near Addison to investigate the hit-and-run, which happened at Lake Street and Lombard Road.

An armed man fired from a house at the investigating officer and retreated back into the residence.

No Addison Trail students or staff members were harmed.

Parents/guardians, students and staff members were informed of the situation about 10 p.m.

School was expected to resume Tuesday, per the website.
