Homecoming Week will rock at Wheeling H.S.

Wheeling High School has a fun-filled week of homecoming activities Oct. 1-6, based on the theme, “Under the Skyline, Chicago.”

On Monday, “Fancy Dress Day,” Homecoming Coronation is at 8:53 a.m. in the gym. There will be a baggo competition during lunchtime.

The student council will hold Penny Wars throughout the week, where each class will compete for spirit points and the proceeds go to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Students may nominate teachers to take a pie in the face by dropping money in jars.

Tuesday will begin with a Senior Star Breakfast at 6:45 a.m. The student body will dress for comfort for “P.J. Day” and the lunchtime game will be potato sack races outdoors, or Musical Chairs indoors, in case of inclement weather.

“Class Color Day” is Wednesday: Freshmen, red; sophomores, green; juniors, white; seniors, black; and staff, tie-dye or WHS spiritwear. The lunchtime game will be “Guess That Song.” A pool party at school begins at 7 p.m., for $3.

Thursday is “Chicago Sports/College Day,” and the lunch activity is a water balloon toss outdoors, or a pie-eating contest inside in case of bad weather. Movie Night, rain (gym) or shine (the school courtyard) will be held at 8 p.m.; $3.

“Extreme Blue and Gold Day” is Friday. The Art Club will provide face painting in the main hall during lunches. A rousing Pep Rally will begin at 2:19 p.m., where the teacher with the highest number of votes will take a pie in the face. There will also be a class tug-of-war and several school groups will perform.

The football game vs. Buffalo Grove High School is at 7:30 p.m., following a pregame presentation of the homecoming court. The winner of the class spirit stick will be revealed at halftime.

Homecoming will come to a close on Saturday, with the dance from 8 to 11 p.m. in the gymnasium.
