Borden powers Vernon Hills victory

Evan Borden's hat trick did the trick for Vernon Hills' boys soccer team.

Borden tallied all 3 goals in the Cougars' 3-1 win over Ridgewood in a nonconference match Thursday. Tony Orozco, David White and Matthew Tabrizi earned assists, as Vernon Hills improved to 6-2-1.

Lake Zurich 7, Mundelein 0: Matt Montemayor and Miguel Hernandez each scored twice for the visiting Bears, who built a 3-0 halftime advantage in the North Suburban Lake contest.

Ian Murray, Danny Suerth and Ian Hesch also scored, while Tim Burroughs had 3 assists in helping Lake Zurich improve to 2-5-1 and 1-1 in the division. Will O'Brien also picked up an assist. Bears keepers Braven Bacardi (5 saves) and Mike Savio (2 saves) combined on the shutout.

Antioch 2, North Chicago 0: Iven Hernandez had a goal and an assist for the Sequoits in their North Suburban Prairie opener. JR Lonergan also scored and Tommy Tritschler earned the shutout in goal for Antioch (5-3).
