Injury at ISU sidelines Willowbrook’s Colbert for season

NORMAL — Illinois State senior wide receiver Milton Colbert, a Willowbrook grad, will miss the remainder of the 2012 season due to an ankle injury suffered in the team’s Red-White Scrimmage Saturday, head coach Brock Spack announced Monday.

Colbert suffered the injury while heading into the end zone for a touchdown on a 47-yard pass play. The Villa Park native was injured while being tackled on the play and suffered a left ankle dislocation, which resulted in a fractured fibula and a high ankle sprain. The injury to the 6-foot-4 wide receiver will require surgery later this week, which will end Colbert’s chances of playing this season.

“We feel really bad for Milton, but this injury requires surgery and will keep him out for the season,” Spack said. “Hopefully, this surgery will get his leg back to normal after some rehabilitation and he will have no lingering effects from the injury. We will miss Milton on the field this year.”

Last season, Colbert played in 10 games at wide receiver and caught 2 passes for a total of 56 yards, both of which resulted in touchdowns. He also recorded 6 tackles on the special teams coverage unit. Before coming to Illinois State, Colbert spent the previous three seasons at Michigan State, where he sat out the 2008 season as a redshirt and was a member of the practice squad during the 2009-10 seasons.
