Township grateful for food donations

Celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, the Stamp Out Hunger food drive is the nation’s largest single-day food drive. The annual Postal Carriers Stamp Out Hunger food drive was held on May 12, and the Schaumburg postal carriers delivered over 11,400 pounds of groceries to the Schaumburg Township Food Pantry!

We would like to thank the communities of Schaumburg and Hoffman Estates for their generous donations left at their mailboxes, to be picked up by the postal workers. Your contributions will ensure that residents in need of food within Schaumburg Township will receive assistance.

We are grateful to the Schaumburg Postal Service Carriers who delivered the donations to the township. We appreciate the volunteers from the Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association of Schaumburg who assisted in boxing and sorting the groceries. With their overwhelming support we were able to coordinate this event to run efficiently and successfully. Thank you Riccardo’s Restaurant for donating pizzas to feed the hardworking staff and volunteers.

The Township of Schaumburg food pantry serves, on average, more than 450 households a month. Appointments are scheduled to use the client choice pantry on a monthly basis.

The pantry shelves empty quickly of canned meats, canned tomato products, pasta, canned fruit, peanut butter and jelly, juice, as well as any paper products such as toilet paper, paper towels, and personal hygiene items also in demand throughout the year. Please keep the pantry in mind as you do your family shopping.

Call General Assistance at (847) 884-0030 for information or assistance. Office hours are 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
