Hubbard’s homer total grows as Fremd’s offense erupts

One day after becoming Fremd’s home run queen, Megan Hubbard was still flexing her muscles.

The senior second baseman (3-for-4) added 2 more home runs to her resume, including a grand slam and a solo blast in a 12-0, five-inning victory for the Vikings at Glenbrook South on Tuesday.

Hubbard’s school record is now at 19 home runs and she also added a 2-run triple to give her 7 RBI for the day.

Other multiple hitters for the Vikings (26-7) were Kristie Salerno (2-for-3, RBI) and Tracy Welninski (2-for-3, RBI).

Junior Ashlynne Schwantz (13-3) threw a 2-hitter with 9 strikeouts and no walks for Fremd, which will host Rolling Meadows at 4:30 p.m. today in the Mid-Suburban League second-place game.

Glenbrook North 7, Rolling Meadows 1: Senior Josie Suchecki went 2-for-3 with an RBI for Meadows (15-16) at Glenbrook North (24-5).

Meadows freshman right fielder Maddie Morgan doubled for her first varsity hit while teammates Natalie Cannizzo, Jenny Watson and Chloe Prodanovic each had a single.

Freshman Lauren Hattory (2-4) took the loss for Meadows, which visits Fremd at 4:30 p.m. today.

Leyden 3, Lane Tech 1: Junior Danielle Trevino’s 2-run single with two outs in the bottom of the sixth proved to be the game-winner for host Leyden at the Ballpark at Rosemont. The Eagles finished the regular season at 26-7.
