Huntley embarking on twice yearly branch pickup program

The Huntley Public Works Department has scheduled its semiannual curbside tree branch pickup for residents.

The week of May 7 is reserved for pickup on all streets north of Kreutzer Road, while the following week is for all streets within Sun City.

Be sure to put the branches on the parkway the Monday before collections start. Branch collection crews will only go through each neighborhood once, so if you put them out after the crews have left, they won’t be collected.

Moreover, crews will not go on private property to pick up the branches. Residents who miss the curbside pickup can either make arrangements with their waste hauler, or wait until May 19, for a one-time only drop off, which will be held from 8 a.m. to noon at the Public Works facility on Donald Drive.

The following items will not be accepted during the pickups:

Ÿ Tree limbs larger than 10 inches in diameter or smaller than a half inch in diameter

Ÿ Tied bundles of branches

Ÿ Bagged material or material in cans

Ÿ Leaves and yard waste

Ÿ Trimmings from bushes

Ÿ Evergreen material

Ÿ Stumps of any kind

You can dispose of materials on this list by contacting your waste hauler or by hiring a landscaping company.

If you have any questions or concerns, call the public works department at (847) 669-3450.

Buy a house through Habitat for Humanity: Habitat for Humanity of the Northern Fox Valley is looking to help those who either want to own their own home or who are living in substandard housing.

To that end, the nonprofit organization is holding an informational session for its homeownership program at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 5, at Bible Baptist Church, 1701 Papoose Road, Carpentersville.

You’ll learn about the application process and how you can qualify for the program.

Seating is limited. To reserve a space, call (847) 836-1432. Late entry isn’t allowed and you need to stay the entire session if you want to apply for the program.
