Peterson leads Metea Valley with bat

Anna Petersen’s walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth capped off a big day, as Metea Valley beat Plainfield East 6-5 on Friday. Petersen homered and drove in 4 runs for the Mustangs (2-0). Metea trailed 2-0 early, rallied to tie it 2-2, saw Plainfield East score 3 runs in the top of the fifth but answered with 3 in the bottom half.

Lake Park 4, Stagg 2:

No. 13 Lake Park rallied from an early 2-run deficit to beat host Stagg. Lake Park scored twice in the fourth on back-to-back run-scoring doubles by Bianca Catalano and Logan Cahill to tie it 2-2. In the fifth Shannon Fritsche singled and eventually came around to score on a error on a sacrifice. Stephanie Starr was 2-for-4 with an RBI and run scored, Stephanie Aronson 3-for-3 with a run scored and Fritsche 2-for-4 for the Lancers (2-1). Winning pitcher Danielle Jecmen (1-1) scattered 10 hits, striking out five.

Hinsdale South 6-2, Montini 0-5:

Freshman Lauren Trojnar went 4-for-4 with an RBI in Montini’s 3-run fifth inning, as the Broncos rallied in the second game to gain a split of the doubleheader in Darien. Christina Barrett went 2-for-3 in the second game and freshman Kayla Cooper was 4-for-6 for the doubleheader for Montini (2-6). Jessica Buckridge threw a 5-hitter for Hinsdale South in the first game.
