Oakton marks Sexual Assault Awareness Week

Oakton Community College is marking Sexual Assault Awareness Week with several events, including a Take Back the Night rally and candlelight procession at 6 p.m., Friday, March 30, in the main lobby at the Des Plaines campus, 1600 E. Golf Road. For more than three decades, Take Back the Night events have empowered women to take a stand against violence. The rally will include survivor testimonies and safety demonstrations. Throughout the week, local nonprofit agencies including Advocacy, Living, and Mentoring After Assault; Zacharias Sexual Abuse Center; and Rape Victim Advocates will be at the Des Plaines and Skokie campuses to provide information and support. In addition, the View the Clothesline Project, a display of shirts with messages and illustrations designed by survivors or those who love them, will be on display from 10 a.m. — 5 p.m., Wednesday, March 28, in Room 1443 at the Des Plaines campus.
