Women’s History Month play supports Oakton Scholarship Fund
The play “Kita y Fernanda” at 8 p.m. Saturday, March 3, at Oakton Community College Studio One, 1600 East Golf Road, Des Plaines, benefits the Performing Arts Scholarship Fund. Tickets are $20. People can mingle with the cast at a post-show party while enjoying mouth-watering treats.
A timely look at class, immigration, and women’s friendships, the Jeff-nominated play by Tanya Saracho, one of Chicago’s leading new playwrights, tells the tale of Fernanda, the privileged daughter of a wealthy Mexican family living in Texas, and Kita, the child of the family’s undocumented Mexican maid. A chance meeting many years later prompts a flood of memories about growing up in the same household.
Regular performances, which cost $10 for general admission, are scheduled for 8 p.m. March 2, 9 and 10, 2 p.m. March 4 and 11, and 7:30 p.m. March 8. For information, call (847) 635-1900.
