Schaumburg Twp. PTAs has scholarships for summer

As part of its commitment to lifelong learning, the Schaumburg Township Council of PTAs offers scholarships for summer programs and camps to District 54 students currently in fourth-seventh grades who wish to broaden their education, talents and experiences.

A full and complete application must include all the following:

Ÿ The identification and certification form.

Ÿ The student statement form with one 2-part question, maximum 300 words.

Ÿ The parent statement form, maximum 200 words.

Ÿ A copy of the program or camp brochure (including cost information).

Ÿ A copy of the application or registration form (no exceptions).

Ÿ A copy (not the original) of the parent/guardian PTA/PTSA membership card for the 2011-12 academic year, or local unit membership chairman written verification of valid PTA/PTSA membership.

Ÿ A copy of the elementary scholarship checklist.

Any application not meeting all the criteria will be disqualified.

The student and the parent/guardian statements must be on the STC application form and fit in the space provided, either typewritten, computer generated or neatly handwritten with text able to be clearly copied. There must be a separate application submitted for each student for each program/camp and for each session of a camp/program. No submitted materials will be returned.

A limited number of scholarships for up to 50 percent of program or camp tuition will be awarded. The individual amount awarded will not exceed $200. All scholarship checks will be forwarded directly to the program agency or the camp. Should a recipient not attend the camp/program for which a scholarship was awarded, it is the responsibility of the recipient’s family to reimburse STC.

Students may apply for as many scholarships as they choose. Each session of a camp/program must have a separate application. No household will be awarded more than one scholarship. Any one student may be awarded a scholarship for only two consecutive years.

The camp or program must start on or after June 1, 2012, and be done by Sept. 1, 2012.

To comply with the bylaws of PTA, to be “noncommercial, nonsectarian and nonpartisan,” a camp with the purpose of religious instruction will be ineligible for a scholarship.

Please return a completed application in a sealed envelope to the school office. The deadline for submitting an application is designated by the elementary scholarship coordinator for your school’s PTA/PTSA. All candidates will be notified of committee decisions shortly after May 1.

Scholarship recipients are encouraged to notify STC describing the benefits of having attended the camp/program for which the scholarship is received.

Please note that this program is not the same, nor is it affiliated with the Schaumburg Township Elementary School Foundation Memorial Scholarship Grant program.
