One person injured in Route 14 accident near Barrington

One person was injured in a two-car crash early Thursday morning that forced the shutdown of Route 14 near Barrington, authorities said.

Lake County Sheriff’s Lt. Christopher Thompson said a 2000 Mercedes-Benz sedan was heading west on Route 14 about 7:30 a.m. when the driver attempted to turn left onto Cuba Road near the Cuba Township Center.

Mervyn Cohen, 60, of Palatine told police he thought he had enough room to turn into the township center, Thompson said, but didn’t. His vehicle slammed into the front end of a 2002 Pontiac Sunfire heading east on Route 14.

Desiree Dolecki, 27, of Cary, the driver of the Sunfire, suffered minor injuries in the crash, Thompson said. She was taken to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital near Lake Barrington.

Cohen was treated and released at the scene, Thompson said.

The accident made a mess of the morning commute, Thompson said, as authorities shut down Route 14 near Cuba Road. The eastbound lanes of Route 14 were reopened after about 30 minutes, he said, and the entire roadway was reopened about 30 minutes later.
