Schaumburg, Elk Grove assessors to speak at meeting

The anatomy of your property tax bill and how to lower it is the topic of a Tuesday, Nov. 29, meeting of Taxpayers United of Northwest Cook County, which will feature township assessors.

The meeting will be from 7-8:30 p.m. at the Schaumburg Township Hall, One Illinois Blvd., Hoffman Estates.

The speakers will be John Lawson, Schaumburg Township assessor, and Connie Carosielli, Elk Grove Township assessor.

Bring a copy of your latest tax bill. Topics that will be addressed include how could my tax bill go up when my assessed valuation went down, what is the purpose of the equalization factor and how is it calculated, why is it too late to file an appeal for my assessed valuation, why did my neighbor’s tax bill go down and mine went up, how can I find out what my neighbors tax bill is, how are the tax rates for school districts determine and exactly how was my tax bill calculated.
