Go back in time at Schaumburg’s Autumn Harvest Festival

Nostalgia buffs will be transported back to the ’80s and ’90s — that is, the 1880s and 1790s — at this year’s Autumn Harvest Festival on Sunday, Oct. 2 at Spring Valley’s Volkening Heritage Farm in Schaumburg.

The event, which will run from noon to 5 p.m., will demonstrate the amenities of an 1880s farm and 1790s frontier encampment.

“This year’s autumnal celebration features several new historic demonstrators and food vendors,” said Dave Brooks, the conservation services manager at Spring Valley Nature Center. “Whole Foods Market will be back again with tasty samples, and many other favorites will return.”

History-themed activities at the farm, 201 S. Plum Grove Road, include demonstrations of cow milking, cider pressing, working draft horses, farm and harvest chores, frontier-style foods cooked over an open fire and the opportunity to see inside a Native American wigwam.

Other activities will include pumpkin decorating, children’s crafts and live music. Food and beverages will be available for purchase.

Admission costs $4 per person or $16 per family of six or fewer. Additional members are $4 each. Children 3 years old and younger are free.

Parking is available at the Nature Center on Schaumburg Road and off Plum Grove Road across from the Heritage Farm.
