Success for Quest students at National History Day competition

Seven students from Quest Academy, Palatine, beat out thousands to earn spots at the recent annual National History Day competition at the University of Maryland June 12-16.

At the competition, Quest students Frani O’Toole of West Dundee, Marissa Howe of Hoffman Estates, Jenna Chin of Inverness, Birkan Cetinkaya of Vernon Hills, Advith Chelikani of Palatine, Max Kontorovich of Buffalo Grove and Owen Chang of Barrington displayed papers, documentaries and websites to compete against participants from all over the globe.

Schools from the United States, Guam, American Samoa, China, as well as Department of Defense Schools in Europe had students who qualified to participate.

Top finishers from Quest include Marissa Howe, seventh grade, who placed 10th in the nation for her individual documentary, “The Attempted Nazi March in Skokie: Freedom for the Speech We Hate,” and Jenna Chin, eighth grade, who placed 11th in the nation for her paper, “The Escobedo v. Illinois Supreme Court Case.”

Located in Palatine, Quest Academy is a preschool through eighth-grade private school providing gifted children with a challenging curriculum and nurturing environment. Its programs emphasize sound character along with scholarship and creativity.
