Dundee-Crown no match for Jacobs' power game

Jacobs' girls volleyball team expected to take care of business against District 300 rival Dundee-Crown Tuesday night.

But D-C coach Tracy Williams was hoping her team would put up more of a fight.

Jacobs was dominant and D-C played on its heels for the better part of the Fox Valley Conference Valley Division match in Carpentersville, with the Golden Eagles walking away a 25-8, 25-6 winner in a match that almost less time to complete (26 minutes) than the pre-game warmup.

Jacobs (8-4, 2-1) served 10 aces in the match and had its way with D-C's serve receive, which broke down on numerous occasions.

"Dundee-Crown always plays scrappy and I thought we did a nice job of serving tough," said Golden Eagles coach Lisa Dwyer.

Leading the way for the Golden Eagles were seniors Quinn Luehring and Taylor Lesner. Luehring, the team's setter, had 5 aces and served the Eagles from a 15-8 advantage to game point, and then set senior Clara Moravec for the winning kill in Game 1. Lesner took over the serve in Game 2 with Jacobs leading 10-4 and didn't give it back until the Eagles had an insurmountable 18-5 advantage. She served 2 aces in the run. The Eagles served out the match with 2 aces from Luehring and then scored match point on a powerful kill from sophomore Alysaa Ehrhardt.

"(Dwyer) helps me see the court so much better." said Luehring, who added 16 assists. "It's about power and strategy and hitting to places in the defense. You have to keep them on their toes.

"We did a lot of different stuff today for the hitters."

Dwyer acknowledges the progression she's seen in Luehring's game.

"She has really really worked hard," Dwyer said. "She's done a good job of adjusting and the girls have done a good job of looking to her. She shows a lot of leadership and they have a ton of faith in her."

Ehrhardt took care of the hitting end of the game for the Eagles, notching a match-high 16 kills. Elise Charron had 3 kills for Jacobs.

For D-C (2-10, 0-2) it was a frustrating night all the way around.

"We had no serve receive, no offense, no defense. We had nothing," said Williams. "I at least thought we'd come out and compete and we didn't even compete. That's the worst we've been beaten this year. It's very disheartening. We'll just move on."

Lauren Mosher led the Chargers with 2 kills.
