Burlington Central 2nd at BNC meet

The Burlington Central boys track team got four individual championships and a four-medal performance from Mitch Plum Friday night and finished second at the Big Northern Conference meet held at Hampshire.

Winnebago won the meet with 126.5 points. The Rockets scored 107 to just outdistance Richmond-Burton (104) for second place. Host Hampshire was 11th with 3 points.

Cameron Ostrowski won the high jump for Central with a leap of 6 feet, 5 inches. Clint Kliem took first in the 3,200-meter run in a time of 9:56 and Mike Kellenberger won the 300 hurdles in 41.03. But the Rockets' biggest performance came from Tre Llanes, who returned to action after missing the last two weeks with a quad injury and won the triple jump in 43-3.

"Our guys ran real well tonight and it was nice to get Tre back. He made the difference in us getting ahead of Richmond," said BC coach Mike Schmidt, whose team competes in the Class 2A Sterling sectional next weekend.

Plum's four medals came in the 400 (3rd), the 200 (3rd), the 100 (5th) and the 400 relay (4th).
