Roselle library furniture giveaway off to fast startJan 5, 2015 8:30 PM - When Roselle Public Library officials decided to give away some used furniture, the hope was to remove worn-out chairs and tables before replacements arrive next month. Now the delivery of the new furniture -- scheduled for the first week of February -- can't come soon enough. That's because more than a dozen people took advantage of the library's "Furniture Giveaway" by claiming many of the available upholstered lounge seats, task chairs and tables within the first hour of the event, which started on Monday morning. "We never expected it to go this fast," said Amy Cawley, the executive director of the library.

But officials who negotiated the deal argue the 17 government agencies that receive property taxes from the golf club potentially saved the same taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars in future legal bills by settling.

How Medinah’s proposed tax cut could cost schools
Mar 26, 2014 3:11 PM - Officials at the exclusive Medinah Country Club near Roselle are attempting to reduce the property tax burden by nearly 80 percent for each of the last three years. If successful, two school districts would have to repay the club roughly $300,000 each, or essentially the equivalent of 12 new teachers' salaries, officials said.
