Forums offered for Roselle and Bloomingdale candidates

The League of Women Voters of Roselle-Bloomingdale Area is hosting a series of candidate forums and a candidate meet-and-greet before the Consolidated Election on Tuesday, April 1.

These events promote transparency, and help voters make informed decisions during elections. All candidates in the races listed below have been invited to participate and will be given equal time to present their cases for candidacy.

The candidate forum for Hanover Park mayor, District 108 board, and Roselle Village Board was held on March 9.

The next candidate forum will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 13, at Clauss Recreation Center, 555 W Bryn Mawr, Roselle. It will feature candidates for Roselle Elementary District 12, Keeneyville Elementary District 20, and Roselle Public Library District.

It will be followed by a candidate forum at 1 p.m. Sunday, March 16, at Medinah Park District, 22W130 Thorndale Ave, Medinah. It will feature candidates for one unexpired 2-year and three 4-year seats on the Medinah Park District board.

A candidate meet-and-greet will be 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, March 23, in rooms A and B at the Bloomingdale Public Library, 101 Fairfield Way. It will feature candidates for Bloomingdale Township, Bloomingdale Public Library, and Bloomingdale Elementary District 13 boards.

Voters can ask questions and learn more about the candidates’ credentials and platforms. Constituents are encouraged to email their questions to lwvrbmail@gmail.com before the forums for possible inclusion.

The League hosts forums for contested races only. Trained, non-partisan volunteers moderate the events. Each candidate gets two minutes for an opening statement. Questions are collected in advance from League members, community members, and non-partisan groups.

During in-person forums, the audience can write questions on notecards. The moderator asks questions in rotation, ensuring equal opportunities for all candidates. After the Q&A, candidates have one minute for a closing statement. If only one candidate is present, they will have three minutes for an introductory statement. No surrogates are allowed.

The candidate meet-and-greet allows voters to meet the candidates in a more informal setting where they can share their platforms and answer questions.

The League sponsors these events as a service to voters --it is free and open to the public. The League of Women Voters is a non-partisan organization that does not support or endorse candidates.
