    A settlement deal that promises backloaded assessment reductions for Medinah Country Club this year through 2016 could wind up meaning higher taxes for neighboring property owners over the next three years. But officials who negotiated the deal argue the 17 government agencies that receive property taxes from the golf club potentially saved the same taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars in future legal bills by settling.

    Some Roselle-area taxpayers feel like it’s “deja pool” all over again. Roselle resident Phil Van Duyne, who opposes Lake Park High School District 108’s most recent push for voter approval of an aquatic center, said the joking phrase sums up his feelings on the two referendum questions voters will see on the March 18 ballot. “The district taxpayers have been pretty clear that they’re not in favor of a pool at Lake Park High School,” Van Duyne said. “People just voted it down, but now it’s coming back.”

    Elk Grove Park District will begin a nearly $7 million renovation/expansion of the Pavilion Aquatic Center after Sunday, that will result in a six-lane, 25-yard outdoor lap pool, a warm water exercise pool, an eight-lane, 25-yard indoor lap pool with diving area, new locker rooms, updated showers in the fitness center, and a new entrance to the aquatic area.

    Even when days aren’t cold enough this winter to ice skate on Turner Pond in Roselle, residents still can bring their blades. The village board on Monday unanimously approved an intergovernmental agreement with Roselle Park District to allow park district patrons to use Roselle’s artificial ice rink in the park at 81 E. Devon. The park board is slated to approve its end of the agreement Tuesday night.
