Snicker Bar Salad Delights Residents at Friendship Village

Candy bars in a salad? It tasted way better than the description might lead you to believe.

Snicker bar salad was the recipe shared for the weekly Prepare and Taste program for Circle of Friends at Friendship Village senior living community in Schaumburg last week.

Circle of Friends, coordinated by Joshlyn Johnson from the Lifestyles department, is a program designed to provide engaging social and recreational activities in a smaller, guided setting. As part of the larger calendar of programs and events offered at Friendship Village, these more intimate gatherings are attractive to many, including newer residents. They are designed to bring people out of their apartments and into the community.

Circle of Friends offers encouragement to participate in programs via personal invitations, phone call reminders and the companionship of old and new friends.

Circle of Friends was started in order to get residents out, build their confidence, and make sure there's nothing they feel they can't do. Including but not limited to sharing Snicker bar salad.

"The lifestyles team at Friendship Village offers more than 250 different programs and activities each week. Many of them are for people who are eager to get out and participate. But for those residents who are a little more shy or anxious about jumping right in, Circle of Friends is a great option. We want to make sure we always have something for everyone, and that includes people who may be a bit more timid. We're very proud of Circle of Friends, which has been successful at helping people become more involved," said Carla Smith, director of Lifestyles.
