Hanover Township Mental Health Board awards funding at May 23 Meeting

The Hanover Township Mental Health Board awarded $55,000 in funding to support future services at Hanover Landing, the Township's Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) initiative in Elgin with UPholdings that will open later this year.

Ecker Center for Behavioral Health received $25,000 to provide intensive case management, substance use services, and therapy to residents of Hanover Landing. Once the facility opens, Ecker will have offices onsite for residents and other clients.

As the service coordinating agency for the facility, the Township was awarded $30,00 in funding from the Mental Health Board to hire a Disability Services Coordinator. This position will provide intake for residents and linkage to Township programs as well as services offered by partner community agencies.

Hanover Landing is a 40-unit, amenity-rich PSH development that will serve residents living with disabilities, all of whom will live independently and retain all rights of tenancy.

During the meeting, Board members elected Kathy Biesiadecki as Chair, Faiza Rahim as Vice Chair, and Mary Jane Garvey as Secretary. Officers will assume their duties on July 1.

Mary Jane Garvey was also sworn in during the meeting following her reappointment by the Hanover Township Board of Trustees. A resident of Streamwood, Garvey previously served two terms on the Mental Health Board.

The next meeting of the Mental Health Board will take place on Aug. 22 at 6:30 p.m., at the Senior Center (240 S. IL Route 59, Bartlett).

Hanover Township serves over 105,000 residents in portions of the Cook County communities of Streamwood, Elgin, Bartlett, Hanover Park, Hoffman Estates and Schaumburg.
