ECC's Spring 2023 commencement ceremonies take place on May 20

Elgin Community College will recognize the spring Class of 2023 with May commencement ceremonies.

Three ceremonies will celebrate students earning their State of Illinois High School Diploma, associate degree, or career certificate. Students are assigned to the graduation ceremony based on the credential(s) earned. All ceremonies will stream live at youtube.com/ElginSpartans.

On Friday, May 19, at 7 p.m., ECC recognizes the graduates of the State of Illinois High School Diploma program. Two graduates will deliver remarks: Cristina Bahena Benitez of Hanover Park and Sheronda Murray-Jamison of East Dundee.

On Saturday, May 20, the 10 am Career and Technical programs ceremony recognizes candidates for the associate of applied science degrees, vocational specialist certificates, and basic vocational specialist certificates with student speaker Kira Spears of Algonquin. An honorary associate in science will be awarded to Candace McCreary, DD, a former member of the District 509 Board of Trustees.

That same day, the 2 p.m., the University Transfer ceremony recognizes candidates for the associate in arts, associate in science, associate in fine arts-visual art emphasis, associate in fine arts-music performance emphasis, associate in engineering science, and associate in liberal studies) with student speakers Chioma Echefu, of Carpentersville, and Paulina Sequeda Malave of West Dundee. An honorary associate in arts degree will be awarded to John Duffy, trustee emeritus and former member of the District 509 board of trustees.

ECC President David Sam, PhD, JD, LLM, will deliver the commencement address for both ceremonies. Chair of the Board of Trustees Donna Redmer, EdD, and Antonio Ramirez, PhD, associate professor of history and 2023 Outstanding Full-Time Faculty Member award winner, will also provide remarks.

All ceremonies take place in Building J Events Center at the college's Spartan Drive Campus, 1700 Spartan Drive in Elgin, Ill. For more information about ECC's commencement exercises, visit elgin.edu/celebrate.
