Streamwood High School's performance of 'Cinderella'

Streamwood High School's Fine Arts Department will present Rogers and Hammerstein's musical "Cinderella" at 7 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, April 27- 28 and 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 29, in the school's auditorium. The show is directed by Linnea Grooms with vocal direction by Justyn Jost and Pit Orchestra director, Max Mollenkamp.

Rodgers + Hammerstein's "Cinderella" is the new Broadway adaptation of the classic musical. This contemporary take on the classic tale features Rodgers & Hammerstein's most beloved songs, including "In My Own Little Corner," "Impossible/It's Possible" and "Ten Minutes Ago," alongside up-to-date, hilarious and romantic music by Tony Award nominee Douglas Carter Beane.

At its core, Rodgers & Hammerstein's "Cinderella" remains the heartfelt tale of the girl from the cinders who connects with her prince. In this tale, the prince is lost as he prepares to assume the throne, and our forthright and kind Ella works to try and change the prince into a better man.

Behind the scenes is a tech crew of 10 students, under the direction of auditorium manager and technical director, Emmalie Hall. The crew is designing and constructing the set, designing and controlling the lighting, organizing all of the props and handling all of the sound engineering. Costumes are being designed by Ashley Santiago.

Savannah Hammershoy, a junior, playing the role of Ella says, "Being in 'Cinderella' has been great. My favorite part of the show is when Cinderella and the family are day dreaming about what the ball was like and we all dance and sing together. I just find it amazing how one moment they are questioning her on all of the things that happened at the ball and then seconds later they have joined Cinderella in her fantasy. It has been a lot of fun so far and I can't wait to perform this show!"

Sarah Ballenger, one of the step sisters, says, "The rehearsal process has been so fun; everyone is incredible and we all got even closer with one another throughout the process. At this point, we are family because of how much we spent together."

Come to a special event "Tea with the Princess" from 3-4 p.m. on Saturday, April 29. Play performances are at 7 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, April, 27 and 28 and 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 29, in the Streamwood High School Auditorium, at 701 W. Schaumburg Road, in Streamwood. Tickets for these performances will be $8 for students and $10 for a general admission seat and available for purchase at the door.
