Flute choir, concert band to perform showstoppers

The Arlington Heights Community Concert Band will perform music from memorable Broadway musical showstoppers like "Guys and Dolls," "Rocky" on Broadway and selections from "Les Misérables" and many more.

The band will also play classics like Giuseppe Verdi's "March from Aida" and "The Ride of the Valkyries" from Richard Wagner's Music Drama "Die Walkure."

Under the direction of conductor and artistic director Pietro Pisello, the concert will take place at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 23, in the Forest View Educational Center Theater, 2121 S. Goebbert Road, Arlington Heights. The theater doors will open at 2:30 p.m.

This concert will feature a special performance from the band's own flute choir, which is a group of flutists playing together much like a vocal choir. This choir uses a piccolo, alto flute and bass flute, plus lower pitched instruments like the bassoon.

The choir will play excerpts from "The Sound of Music." This flute arrangement has a unique sound because of the addition of the bassoon to the traditional flute choir.

Admission is free, but the band does accept donations to offset the cost of music and production. Arlington Heights Community Concert Band Inc. is an Illinois not-for-profit corporation, approved by the internal exempt organization, and all donations are tax deductible to the extent provided by law.
