Hanover Township Supervisor's Community Service Award Winners recognized

A socially distanced awards ceremony was held last Saturday at the Hanover Township Senior Center in Bartlett to recognize this year's winners of the Supervisor's Community Service Awards.

A volunteer committee reviewed the nominations submitted by the community for awards in five categories. Nominations are judged on the service activities of the individual or community organization, in addition to the impact the service has on the community and individuals in the community.

Awards were presented to: Vivian Sumoski, Youth Volunteer; Joni Lorkowski, Adult Volunteer; Walter Niemczyk, Senior Volunteer; Kiwanis Club of Streamwood, Service Organization of the Year; and Fiesta Market, Business Organization of the Year.

This year's committee included Chairperson Lorrie Glaser, Lori Ann Airdo, William Henderson, Kerrie Trebonsky, and Mary Wojtczak,

"The many acts of selfless service from individuals and organizations in our community too often go unnoticed and unrecognized," said Brian P. McGuire, Hanover Township Supervisor. "This past year, perhaps more than any other, all of the nominees' hard work and positive contributions have bettered the Township and truly made a difference."

Those receiving the Supervisor's Choice Awards included Balance Family Chiropractic, Business Organization of the Year; Streamwood Woman's Club, Service Organization of the Year; Gary Pappin, Senior Volunteer; Ken Marcinek, Adult Volunteer; and Jasmin Perez, Youth Volunteer.

Village of Streamwood Trustee, Mary Thon, was presented with the event's top recognition, the Mary Ellen "Mel" Runzel Volunteer Service Award.

The award was created in 2013 to honor Mel for her immeasurable efforts in creating new programs, and recruiting volunteers throughout as a former Township Trustee and Township Welfare Services Director.
