Fourth annual Aliprandi Family Food Drive is up and running

For the fourth consecutive year, Arlington Heights teen Jack Aliprandi wants to have a little fun while helping those in need. Now a sophomore at Saint Viator High School, Aliprandi is making time amid a busy school and extra-curricular schedule to launch his annual Aliprandi Family Reverse Advent Calendar Food Drive.

Already having powered through several years of COVID concerns, Aliprandi, his mom Lisa, and plenty of classmates including Jack's teammates on the Saint Viator bowling team are ready to stare down inflation and help put food on the tables of local families in need.

"Helping stock the shelves at local food pantries is important," Jack said, "But there's no reason we can't make it fun, too. The reverse Advent calendar puts a twist on a great holiday tradition by making the calendar about giving, not receiving."

The calendar, which can be found at www.aliprandifamilyfooddrive.com highlights one grocery item each day to be collected. Participants simply add each daily item to a collection box or bag at home, then deliver everything at the close of the drive on Jan. 8. Items can be dropped off at Knights of Columbus Hall, 15 N. Hickory, in Arlington Heights, between 1 and 5 p.m. on Jan. 8. Cash donations can also be made on the website for the purchase of grocery gift cards. The food and gift cards will be delivered to the Mount Prospect Food Pantry, Northwest Compass and Journeys | The Road Home.

"With high inflation impacting the cost of food this year, there are many families who are having a hard time putting good food on the table," Jack said. "We're really excited to see how the community will respond this year."
