Vernon Library installs EV charging stations
Visitors to the Vernon Area Public Library can now charge their car while checking out books, thanks to two EV charging stations recently added to the library parking lot.
Library visitors will find two Level 2 charging stations located at the back of the public parking lot, 300 Olde Half Day Road, Lincolnshire. The chargers are compatible with all electric vehicles currently on the market, including Teslas.
Each station provides up to 7.7 kilowatts of charge per hour - approximately 25 miles of additional driving range for each hour spent charging, depending on the vehicle.
Those powering up at the library pay a per-kilowatt-hour charging fee of 16 cents. The user fees cover the cost of electricity, plus an amount toward cost recovery for the equipment and installation. Charging fees may change each month beginning in December to adjust for fluctuations in electricity costs.
To use the charging stations, users can download the EVmatch app or create an account on EVmatch.com. A credit card is required for charging fees.
The charging stations are in operation during regular library business hours only: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sundays.
"We are happy to help local sustainability efforts move forward, and the library is a great place to hang out while waiting for your car to charge," said Stephen Territo, head of library operations.
"There's comfortable seating, coffee and vending, a kids area, and a library full of books and other things to borrow."
