iambe theatre's 'Roommate' receives rave reviews, final performances this weekend

iambe theatre ensemble closes out its production of "The Roommate" by Jen Silverman this weekend at the Elgin Arts Showcase, 164 Division St. in downtown Elgin. Performances run this Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.

Jen Silverman's poignant, funny "The Roommate" is a powerful story of personal transformation, life transitions, love, friendship, and identity.

"The Roommate" is the second play produced by the newly created iambe theatre ensemble, which focuses on representing the voice/perspective of the mature female, a demographic not seen enough in theatre, according to the founders.

The production is directed by Sean Hargadon and features the two founders, Doreen Dawson and Shannon Mayhall in the lead roles, and the show has received high praise from audiences:

"I had the great fortune to see iambe Theatre's 'The Roommate' and Doreen Dawson and Shannon Mayhall gave an absolute master class in complex character development in this very interesting play. If you have any free time this weekend, please support this new and ambitious group," said Christine Pfenninger.

"Enjoyed a fabulous performance from iambe theatre ensemble. A wonderfully humorous and endearing script and two extremely talented actors, Doreen Dawson and Shannon Mayhall," added Jami Johnson.

"Crawl, walk, run, drive or take a train. Just don't miss this show! Such a great production. Bravo to all," said Guy Sullivan.
