Hanover Township Mental Health Board awards funding at September 27 Meeting

The Hanover Township Mental Health Board awarded $40,000 in funding to three agencies during its Sept. 27 meeting.

Elderday Center was awarded $12,000 in Challenge Funding to expand its program in the township. Headquartered in Batavia, the agency provides therapeutic day services to older adults with some cognitive issues. Elderday recently began offering programming at a new location at 1125 Summit St., in Elgin on Mondays and Wednesdays.

The board awarded Marklund with $25,000 in Capital Funding to build an accessible and inclusive playground at its Wasmond Center. Located in the township, the facility houses 60 children and adults with medically complex developmental disabilities.

The Mental Health Board also awarded $3,000 in Staff Development funding to Community Alternatives Unlimited to attend training on serving individuals with developmental disabilities. Agency staff are required by the state to earn 12 hours of Continuing Education each year to remain Qualified Intellectual Disability Professionals. Community Alternative Unlimited currently serves 172 township residents and their families with developmental disabilities.

The next meeting of the Mental Health Board will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 25, at the Senior Center, 240 S. Route 59, Bartlett.

Hanover Township serves over 105,000 residents in portions of the Cook County communities of Streamwood, Elgin, Bartlett, Hanover Park, Hoffman Estates and Schaumburg.
